Chapter 208
208-1. Grounds for
removal.
Whenever any member of the
Police Department shall find a vehicle upon any street or highway,
including the Boardwalk and the approaches thereto, or upon city-owned
property within Ventnor City and such vehicle is parked in violation of
any city ordinance, county regulation or state law, is so disabled as to
constitute an obstruction to traffic, motor vehicle or pedestrian, or is
parked without identification markers as provided by the laws of this
state or such member has reasonable grounds to believe that such vehicle
has been abandoned (continuous parking of a vehicle on a public highway,
street including the Boardwalk and approaches thereto, or upon
city-owned property for a period of 48 hours shall be deemed sufficient
evidence of abandonment), such member may cause or secure the removal of
such vehicle, without liability or responsibility, to such garage or
place as may be designated by the chief of Police as the place for
impounding of such vehicles. Such vehicle shall be there retained and
impounded until the person owning such vehicle shall pay the cost of
such taking, towing and removal together with a garage charge of $1 for
each and every day such vehicle is retained and impounded. The payment
of such charges shall not relieve such person of the penalties of such
parking violation.
